Elephant Eating

How do you eat an elephant?  I’ve always thought that to be a strange question, seeing as how I can’t imagine a scenario in which an elephant would taste good.  But, of course, the wisdom isn’t in the taste of the elephant but in the patience of the process- one bite at a time.

Life and Lunch

I’ve found my fundraising effort to be a bit like eating an elephant.  I’ve killed the elephant, cut away all the excess fat, and now I am endeavoring to eat it.  I’m not sure what real-life equivalency should be assigned to the killing aspect of the allegory… so don’t over analyze.

At the moment, with basically all of my cash budget raised, I am at 26 % of my monthly budget.  The process for me this time has been quite different than when I was with a larger organization.  I have found myself confronted with unique challenges and setbacks.  However, every time I feel disheartened, some little nugget of encouragement  comes along to help me swallow the current bit of elephant on which I am chewing.  I thought about listing the names of all the people whose actions and words have enlightened my journey, but the more I thought about it the more names kept falling into my memory.  From Marie, to Ken, to Linda, to Roy and Peggy, to Jeff and Heather, to a church in Florida whose members I have never met,  to John and Cindy who insisted on being the first to donate, to the kind pastor’s wife who chatted with me for 30 minutes: the identities are numerous.  I have surely forgotten several people, so if you are reading this and you are not mentioned, please forgive me.  I want to say thank you to everyone for your prayers, support, thoughts, and friendships.
