Well,
I feel like an inventor who has built a new kind of airplane. Many of his friends were encouraging, but many of them were not. He has spent much effort constructing his device, has climbed into the vehicle, and now stands at the precipice of a cliff preparing to put his thoughts into practice. If he crashes, there is no one to blame but himself. But, he looks around at the beautiful landscape and imagines the potential of his impending adventure.
It is Thursday night, July 12; I fly out of Oklahoma City tomorrow morning. I will visit a few people as I go, and I will arrive in Niamey, Niger on July 20. Pray for safe travel. Also pray that I will be able to slide smoothly into life in Niamey. I need to find a place to live and do all the things that life requires. I will also be working to construct and implement a practical plan to reach Africans with the hope of Christ. The basic idea is to begin a cell-group of 8-12 Christians. The logistics of doing that in the best possible manner need to be planned and researched. I am excited to reconnect to missionary kids whom I have not seen in two years. I look forward to reopening a discipleship relationship with a few of them.
Many of you have contributed funds and prayers to this process. I appreciate deeply everything you do for me. I met with my treasurer to review my account a few days ago and found that a few donors were donating more than I had thought. I contend that I have the best donors in missions.
To be honest, I didn’t know if this day would actually arrive. Doubt is a funny companion; it seems wise at first taste but quickly turns empty. Thank you to everyone who invested an encouraging word to me. My current situation is quite different from before when I was with a large organization. I have had a bit of a learning curve but feel that I have grown in the process.
